Is a hardware store important as a grocery store? If you’re going to choose, which one will it be?
Quiet a tough question for some, isn’t it? I am sure others
will say that grocery store is much of necessity for obvious reason—Food! But, if
I am going to choose between the two, I will choose both. Why? They are both a
necessity. Let us see why.
A supermarket is large form of a grocery store; it’s a self-service shop
offering a wide selection of food and household products. Usually
comprises meat, poultry, fresh produce, dairy, and baked goods.
You can also find shelf space reserved for canned and packaged goods as well as
small section of various non-food items such as kitchenware, household
cleaners, pharmacy products and pet supplies. Some also sell different
household products that are consumed regularly, such as alcohol or liquors, cigarettes, over
the counter medicines, clothes, and some stores sell a much wider range of
non-food products: DVD’s, sporting equipment, board games, and seasonal items.
All of these are the stuff we need in our daily lives… But what if we need some
nails, screws, hammers, or door locks, gardening set, paints, etc that cannot
be found in supermarkets? Not all carry them, right? That’s why a Hardware Shop or Home Improvement Stores were built. Isn’t that smart? Kidding
aside, hardware shops or stores, according to Wikipedia: is “sometimes known as
DIY stores, sell household hardware for home improvement including: fasteners, hand
tools, power tools, keys, locks, hinges, chains, plumbing supplies, electrical
supplies, cleaning products, house wares, tools, utensils, paint, and lawn and
garden products directly to consumers for use at home or for business. Many
hardware stores have specialty departments unique to its region or its owner's
interests. These departments include hunting and fishing supplies, plants and
nursery products, marine and boating supplies, pet food and supplies, farm and
ranch supplies including animal feed, swimming pool chemicals, home brewing
supplies and canning supplies”.
Basing from the definition, it is a one stop kind of shop.
Where all the materials you need from home improvement, hobby materials, and
even home brewing can be found. Most, if not all hardware stores also offers
unique services like custom or they can make a variety of household items. They
are some hardware shops that are offering repairs of broken windows or screens
or sometimes they do accept custom making, power equipment repair, re-key entry
locks, cars and house keys duplicate or copy, sharpen knives, or any minor
repairs to faucet or shower parts, they also offer paint mixing. Anything that
can ease and make our lives easier, hardware shops can offer.
Another great thing about hardware shops is having their own
online hardware store that also offers wide range of products that can be found
from their physical stores. This online shopping is a great help for consumers
who lives far from the hardware’s physical store. They can purchase the
products online at the same time they can check any product information or
product news.
So it is very clear that both Supermarkets and Hardware
Shops are essential in supplying our daily need making our lives more enjoyable
and easier.
